Biography
Dr David Simcock is a consultant physician and honorary senior lecturer in general internal medicine and respiratory medicine and divides his time between private practice and the NHS. Dr Simcock works at the King Edward VII’s hospital, where he is the Clinical Director of Medicine, The London Clinic and St Bartholomew’s hospital in central London. Dr Simcock has private clinic availability across the week and cares for in-patients year-round.
Dr Simcock’s training involved rotations through core medical specialties and has also worked in anaesthesia and intensive care as a trainee. Specialist training in respiratory medicine was undertaken in London, rotating through specialist teaching hospitals renowned for respiratory medicine. He undertook a 3-year period of medical research that led to the award of a PhD. He has presented his work worldwide and attracted several national and international awards (including the British Thoracic Society Young Scientist of the year award in 2007) and has published in the highest impact factor journals.
Dr Simcock has been a specialist advisor to The British Thoracic Society to help shape national respiratory services. In his role as Clinical Director of Medicine at The King Edward VII’s hospital he is dedicated to working with colleagues to promote safe and effective medical services. He is the Lead Clinician for respiratory endoscopy (and set up the Trusts endobronchial ultrasound with trans-bronchial needle aspiration, EBUS-TBNA, service for the rapid diagnosis and staging of lung cancer) and is the Lead for the regional and nationally commissioned sleep and ventilatory failure unit at St Bartholomew’s hospital.
Dr Simcock is a Royal College of Physicians Examiner and is an Appraiser of consultant colleagues to allow their continued safe practice and revalidation with the General Medical Council. He regularly reviews scientific papers, book chapters and medical textbooks for publication. Dr Simcock is involved in the selection of medical undergraduates for medical school entry and post graduate selection and training in respiratory medicine. He is a member of The Chelsea Clinical Society and Independent Doctor’s Federation.
When not working Dr Simcock enjoys family life, shooting, cricket and sunshine.
